Information About the Lefthand Canyon and CalWood Fires

The CalWood Fire started on Saturday, October 17, around noon, and the Lefthand Canyon fire began the following afternoon. Boulder Mountain Fire has had crews out 24 hours a day since the CalWood Fire began, in order to protect our district. We will continue to proactively monitor and be ready to respond until the threat is over. (The Lefthand Canyon Fire was 100% contained on October 22. The CalWood Fire was 100% contained on November 14.)

Following are resources for how to get information about the fires and ensure you’re prepared in case of evacuation:

Holiday Donations

BMFPD District Residents:

I’m writing this message from Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District and with the approval of Chief John Benson. A number of residents inquire at this time of year about how they might donate to the Fire Department. Please note that we are NOT actively soliciting donations – we are most grateful to all District residents for all your support via real estate property tax payments and involvement in the Auxiliary’s various fund-raising events.

Donations have been a critical factor in keeping BMFPD well equipped and well trained as we provide response to nearly over 150 calls each year (wildfire, structure fire, alarms, gas leaks, and medical calls). In addition, we will be replacing our Station Two in 2020, as the old structure has come to the end of its useful life. We will need to raise about 50% of the cost via donations in order to avoid incurring a mortgage and/or asking for a tax increase (which we intend NOT to do if possible).

Three ways to donate (tax deductible) to Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District:

  • Direct cash donations by check (1905 Linden Drive, Boulder 80304) or via the “Donate Now” button on www.bouldermountainfire.org website;

  • Appreciated stock donations via our Schwab brokerage account (contact rloveman47@gmail.com for detailed instructions);

  • Donation via your Donor Advised Fund account at Fidelity, Vanguard, Goldman Sachs, Boulder Community Fund, or Schwab (contact rloveman47@gmail.com for more info)

As always, Chief Benson, your BMFPD Board, and all the 130+ department volunteers thank you for your support. Have a safe holiday season!

Annual Fire Safety Sale

Can everyone in your home operate a fire extinguisher with confidence?

Are you sure your fire extinguishers will work, and haven’t expired?

The steps you take in the first minutes of a fire in your home can make a huge difference in the scope of your loss. Since Boulder Mountain Fire Auxiliary started the Fire Safety Sale, four homes in our fire district were saved by homeowners who traded in non-working gear and practiced putting out a real fire.

Make time to attend the Fire Safety Sale & Demo,  bring other members of your household - and bring older extinguishers to test.

Sat May 4 - Sat May 5, 10 am to 3 pm

Sat: BMFPD Station 1 (Pine Brook Hills), 1905 Linden

Sun: BMFPD Station 2 (Boulder Heights ), 50 Overlook Road
