WHAT IS A COMMUNITY WILDFIRE PROTECTION PLAN

A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is a document created by local agencies or communities to assess wildfire risks and develop ways to reduce those risks within a given area. The plan brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including local government, the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS), local fire protection districts, and community members. It is a collaborative effort to identify and prioritize measures to protect life, property, and critical infrastructure during a wildfire event.

Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District 2025 CWPP

The Boulder Mountain Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), completed in January 2025, provides homeowners with guidance on how to mitigate wildfire risk and protect their properties. The CWPP includes recommendations at both the community level and district-wide to strengthen overall wildfire resilience across the fire protection district.

The CWPP provides a risk analysis that uses local factors to evaluate wildfire risk across the district. This section analyzes 12 study areas within the Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, with align with the 12 evacuation polygons assigned by Boulder County. The analysis considers multiple factors, including evacuation routes, fuel types, road widths, wildland-urban interface, water sources, watershed risk, and more. Based on this assessment, the CWPP identifies high-risk zones and offers recommendations for wildfire prevention, such as creating defensible space around homes and reducing fuel loads.
